Biography

Dr James Low is a Senior Consultant at the Department of Geriatric Medicine in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) and serves as the Programme Director for the [email protected] Programme – which seeks to improve nursing home care in 8 nursing homes throughout Singapore and reduce unnecessary hospital utilization through the use of telemedicine.

Dr Low started the Palliative Care Service in KTPH in 2001 and headed the Department of Geriatric Medicine at KTPH from 2005 – 2012. He now serves as the ACP Clinical/Programme Lead and Chairman of the Clinical Ethics Committee at KTPH. Dr Low also leads the team that conducts education research and curriculum development for healthcare professionals involved in care of the elderly at the Education and Research Institute of Singapore. He is Adjunct Associate Professor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University and Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.

He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore and Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh). He is also a member of the Society for Geriatric Medicine Singapore, Asia Pacific Hospice Network and British Geriatrics Society.

Dr Low has interests in diverse areas of healthcare including developing telehealthcare in the care of the elderly, developing Pastoral Care in the hospitals as part of end-of-life care and conducting research in areas of education, training, ethics and spirituality.
